Saturday 3rd, Sunday 4th, Sunday 11th, Saturday 17th July – 11:00-16:00 each day
Set within a small site which has been attractively landscaped, Romsey Signal Box will be of interest to anyone wishing to understand more about Romsey’s history, as well as learning about the life of a railway signalman.
The Signal Box will be open until 4pm on Sunday 4th July and Saturday 17th July as part of the regular programme of Open Days. The box will also be open on Saturday 3rd July in the Abbey United Reformed Church Hall, and on Sunday 11th July as part of La Ronde
On 3rd, 4th, 11th and 17th July, the signal box will be the start and finish for the Festival Railway Trail.
Dating from around 1865, Romsey Signal Box is a working museum. Visitors of all ages can get a hands-on experience by changing points, raising signals and ringing bells to control a simulation of trains passing through Romsey.
As well as the main attraction, the site has a visitor centre containing a miniature signal box based on that at Cowley Bridge Junction, which will be operated by a signalman. There are also numerous restored artefacts, photographs and information about the history of the railways around Romsey and the restoration of the signal box.
Entrance to the signal box will be subject to the normal entrance charges (£2.50 for adults or £3 if gift-aided; children free). Pay on the door, cash or credit card. On Sunday 11th July, La Ronde ticket-holders will be admitted free.
If visiting the signal box, we recommend allowing at least an hour for your visit.
Pre-booking advised due to social distancing restrictions. Email info@romseysignalbox.org.uk or text 07743 942576
