Inaugural Romsey Film Festival

Categories: Press releases

Event dates: Saturday 26th September to Saturday 3rd October

Since early 2014 Romsey Town Council have presented a regular film show in the Town Hall, building from the original once a month show we now present up to three shows per month, screening modern films using the council’s own equipment.

Having built up a regular audience for this activity and at the suggestion of our current mayor, Cllr Dorothy Baverstock, we are launching the Romsey Film Festival in September. This event is supported by the Romsey Festival, an arts event held in the town and surrounding district every three years.

Working with partners RAODS (Plaza Theatre), Romsey Signal Box Museum, Mottisfont National Trust, Romsey Abbey, Romsey Twinning, Romsey Youth Council and Kings John House, there will be a programme of film and film-related activities across the town.

We are offering a variety of films from a latest release A Royal Night Out to the 1930s Will Hay favourite Oh Mr Porter, which Romsey Signal Box Museum will show with a number of railway “shorts”, both local and national.

The Plaza is offering the films Bugsy and The Sound of Music (sing-along version) which RAODS has presented as stage shows. There will be prizes at each showing for member of their audience dressed in the best related costume.

Romsey Festival are organising a Film Quiz Evening and fish supper at the Crosfield Hall, which promises to be an entertaining evening for all budding film buffs and their friends.

With events offered by Romsey Twinning and Romsey Youth Council, we hope to offer something for everyone.

The closing event will be a grand gala evening at the Town Hall with red carpet, drinks reception, RAODS singers and a film screening, chosen by the audience on the night from some UK all-time favourites.

Tickets will be available from our partner venues and online.
