Starting on 28th June and continuing through to 30 July, this free outdoor event runs on every day throughout the Festival in the South Garth of Romsey Abbey.

The exhibition is the culmination of a schools arts and science project to create a land sculpture in the South Garth of Romsey Abbey – with the childrens’ research, sketches and designs on display in the Leckford Art Studio at Rum’s Eg.

Supported by The Arts Society (Romsey and National), Talisman Homes. Perbury Group and Rum’s Eg

Mark & Rebecca Ford, land artists of Two Circles Design, are working with Romsey teachers and schoolchildren on an Art and Science project with the final ‘land sculpture’ to be installed in the South Garth walled garden at Romsey Abbey.

The Microbial world is all around us and our very existence dependent on it. Two thirds of life on Earth is invisible to the naked human eye. There are over 100 million species of micro-organisms inside and around us that make us unique and connected. Microbes know no borders, no boundaries or nationality.

Students from Mountbatten School will explore and research the microbial world in collaboration with art and science departments, looking at something small and making it large! A group of year 7 students will be visiting the Microscopy Unit at Southampton General Hospital in May to view crystal samples through electron microscopes.

Environmental Artists Mark and Rebecca Ford will then be working with all year 7 students to create sculptural forms based on the findings from the hospital visit; the artworks will then be exhibited in the grounds of Romsey Abbey and their research work will be on show at Rum’s Eg.

In addition there will be two Rum’s Eg family workshops during the Festival, no need to book just turn up on the day:

Microbial Worlds Family Arts/Science drop-in workshops – in the South Garth at Romsey Abbey (or at Rum’s Eg if raining) – £1.50 charge per person to cover materials:
