King John’s House was ‘discovered’ in 1927 as part of a year of celebration of 90 years of being a centre for celebrating art and history in Romsey we are holding a series of lectures on history, horticulture and the arts.  Each one will begin at 10.30am in the main hall of King John’s House.

Wednesday 5 July – “Garden Ponds and Water Features”.

A morning with well-known local television gardener Charlie Dimmock.

Charlie Dimmock is a well-known local celebrity, and one of Britain’s best loved gardeners, specialising in water features. She trained for 4 years as an amenity horticulturalist and spent a year of her training at the Chelsea Physic Garden.

Television presenter/gardener Charlie first came to the nation’s attention on BBC1’s Ground Force.  In 2001 Charlie’s appeal spread to America where BBC America made two series. Since 2001 she has had a regular gardening strand The Early Show filmed in New York for CBS.

In 2010 Charlie starred as Celia in Calendar Girls touring England from May – July, and she went on to play the role of Fairy Godmother in the panto at Theatre Royal Windsor. She has since appeared in pantos all around the country every year.

Although best known for her gardening programmes on television, her charity works have included running the 2002 London Flora Marathon in conjunction with the British Heart Foundation and climbing Kilimanjaro at the end of 2002 in aid of The Guerba Village Education Project (helping build a computer education centre at the base of Kilimanjaro for the locals). She undertakes many local charity engagements in the Hampshire area.

She has also appeared in Cheer for Charlie where she competed in a Latin American Dance championship, and joined a circus as a trapeze artist.

In 2016 Charlie appeared back on BBC TV presenting Garden Rescue.

Publications include her own book Enjoy Your Garden, and BBC books Ground Force Container Gardens and Ground Force Water Garden Workbook.
